BSS Wax Calculator — Beequip Waxing Odds
Simulate Soft, Hard, Caustic, Debug and Swirled Wax on any beequip. See how likely it is to survive, what stats to expect at each potential, and the exact chance of rolling the value you are chasing — using the game's own beequip stat tables rather than guesses.
Survival
Caustic Wax destroys the beequip 75% of the time. The calculator multiplies every Caustic in your sequence so you know the real risk before you click.
Expected stats
20,000 simulated beequips per setup give the average, typical range and best-seen value of every stat, plus how often each one hits its upgrade cap.
Target roll
Pick a stat and a number — say +45% Convert Amount on a Kazoo — and get the odds and the average number of attempts it will take.
How waxing works in Bee Swarm Simulator
| Wax | Success | Wax points | On failure |
|---|---|---|---|
| 🟡 Soft Wax | 100% | 1 | — |
| 🟠 Hard Wax | 60% | 2 | No change (wax still used) |
| 🟢 Caustic Wax | 25% | 4 | Beequip destroyed |
| 🟣 Debug Wax | 100% | 4 | — |
| 🌀 Swirled Wax | 100% | 0 (rerolls existing points) | — |
- A beequip can take at most 5 waxes. Turpentine removes them all and restores the original stats.
- Each wax point upgrades exactly one stat. The stat is picked by weight among every upgradable stat that has not reached its cap; the weight of rare stats grows with potential.
- Some stats are Caustic-only: they can only be picked by Caustic Wax and Debug Wax points (for example Super-Crit Power on a Kazoo, or Inferno on a Demon Talisman).
- Swirled Wax regenerates the base stats and re-applies every wax point with new rolls. It is the standard way to fish for a specific stat after a successful Caustic Wax.
- Each roll is a biased random number between the stat's minimum and maximum; higher potential moves the bias towards the maximum. Rolls are then rounded to the stat's resolution.
Waxing strategy tips
- Only Caustic a beequip you can replace. One Caustic is a 1-in-4 gamble; five in a row is 1 in 1,024. Use the survival number above, not hope.
- Caustic first, then Swirled. A successful Caustic gives 4 points. Swirled Wax rerolls those 4 points (and the base stats) with no destruction risk, so you can reroll until the points land where you want.
- Hard Wax is the value option. 60% × 2 points = 1.2 expected points per wax versus 1 for Soft — but it can waste a slot. Use Soft when every slot matters (e.g. a beequip that only needs 1–2 more upgrades).
- Potential matters more for rare stats. Common upgrades barely change between 1★ and 5★, but the weight of hive bonuses and Caustic-only stats can be 10× higher at 5★.
- Check the upgrade pool before you wax. A stat that is already at its cap leaves the pool, which raises the odds for everything else — sometimes it is worth soft-waxing a cheap stat to max first.

Frequently Asked Questions
What are the success rates of each wax in Bee Swarm Simulator?
Soft Wax always works and gives 1 wax point. Hard Wax has a 60% chance to work and gives 2 wax points; on a fail nothing changes. Caustic Wax has a 25% chance to work for 4 wax points, and a 75% chance to destroy the beequip. Debug Wax always works for 4 points. Swirled Wax always works but gives no points — it rerolls the base stats and every wax point already on the beequip.
What is the chance of surviving 5 Caustic Waxes?
Each Caustic Wax has a 25% survival chance, so surviving five in a row is 0.25^5 = about 0.098%, or roughly 1 in 1,024. Most players use one Caustic Wax and then Swirled Waxes to reroll the 4 points it gave instead of stacking Caustics.
What does potential do on a beequip?
Potential (0-5 stars) never changes. It biases every random roll towards its maximum, increases the weight of rarer stats when a wax point picks what to upgrade, and makes bigger upgrade steps more likely. The star rating you see is rounded, so two 4-star beequips can have different true potential.
How does the game decide which stat a wax point upgrades?
Every upgradable stat has a weight (which can scale with potential). A wax point picks one stat with probability equal to its weight divided by the total weight of all stats that are not yet at their maximum upgrade count. Caustic-only stats are only in the pool for Caustic and Debug Wax points.
Does Swirled Wax count towards the 5 wax limit?
A beequip can have at most 5 waxes used on it, and Swirled Wax is a wax, so it takes a slot. It rerolls the base stats and re-applies every wax point already on the beequip with fresh random rolls, keeping the same number of points. Turpentine removes all waxes so you can start over.
Why do some upgrades show +0%?
The game rounds each upgrade roll to a resolution. A few beequips have percentage stats whose upgrade step is rounded to whole numbers, so a roll of 0.03 rounds down to 0 (no change) and only very high rolls round up to 1 (+100%). Candy Ring's Convert Amount is the well-known example. The simulator uses the same rounding.

- How this page is calculated
- Beequip stat tables (base ranges, chances, upgrade steps, caps and Caustic-only flags) are converted directly from the game's beequip definitions as documented by the community wiki's datamined Module:Beequip_Stats/data — no numbers are typed in by hand. The wax calculator replays the game's random-bias roll and weighted stat selection in a 20,000-run Monte-Carlo simulation; wax success rates (100% / 60% / 25%) are the in-game item descriptions. Obtain methods are compiled from the wiki and reviewed by us.
